When you start learning a new language, regardless of how much of it you understand, as long as you concentrate on the sounds you will later on notice rapid improvements towards your language learning.
According to a study conducted by Paul Sulzberger, exposing yourself to the sounds present in the language is one of the best ways to start learning a new language. He states that our ability to learn new words is directly related to how often we have been exposed to the particular combinations of the sounds which make up the words.
He further states that listening is a skill and not just simply learning a fact from a book. You have to actively train your brain by exposing it to as much of the language as possible.
Below we show you some very effective language learning strategies that will improve your listening skills.
- If you have access to applications, you can download the TuneIn Radio application. It’s free to use and you can then listen to radio in any given language. Later on you can also start looking up certain words that you feel get repeated over and over again.
- When you are enjoying yourself while learning, your brain is able to take up much more information than usual. Therefore, listening to music in the language you want to learn is a very useful way to improve your language learning effectiveness. For now, just listen and enjoy the songs you like while passively learning a new language. To find out more about additional language learning strategies using music click here.
